Akai | S3000

Description

The S-series samplers from Akai are most likely the best 16-bit samplers in the world. The most radical feature about these great samplers is that they are very synth-like. Aside from outstanding sampling specs such as 44.1kHz 16-bit stereo sampling with tons of RAM (8 to 32 MB) and extensive editing capability, the S3000 series have excellent synth-like filters with resonance, 32-voice polyphony, full digital onboard effects (delay, chorus, reverb, etc.) two LFOs, and complete MIDI implementation with MTC and SMPTE. Other bonus features include digital I/O, SCSI interface, multiple storage options and a great big LCD display screen.

The S3000XL has the same specs as the S3000. But it comes with most of the options already installed. That includes the built-in hard-disk recording option, added filters, SCSI interface, digital I/O, additional optional effects and a SMPTE reader/generator.

The S3000XL features 32-voice polyphony, expandable memory, DSP functions, etc., and using the S3000XL’s resonant lowpass filters, multiple LFOs, envelope generators and extensive modulation possibilities. The S3000XL is also a synthesizer.

New functions in the S3000XL include MULTI mode which simplifies multi-timbral sequencing and layering whilst hardware options include a multi-effects processor that offers no less than four channels that include two multi-effects channels with distortion, EQ, ring modulation, and, modulation effects such as chorus, flanging, pitch shifting, auto panning and rotary speaker effects, plus delay, and, reverb. Two ‘spare’ channels of reverb are also available providing a total of four reverbs. Add to this the second bank of optional resonant multi-mode filters and you can see that the S3000XL is a sampler that can grow with your needs.

Some other models in the series include various options such as built in CD drives (S3000CD) or internal hard disks (S3000i).

Velocity As with a piano, the harder you hit a key, the louder the sound, unlike most organs which always produce the same loudness no matter how hard you hit a key. Aftertouch Pressing a key after you activated it. Channel Aftertouch, no matter which key, it will send a Channel message. Poly Aftertouch, sends the pressure per key instead of the whole channel.
Values for OSC, LFO, Filter, Envelope are per voice unless stated otherwise.
